Google business profile for Ibiza businesses: How to win local search

If you run a restaurant, boutique hotel, beach club, or shop in Ibiza, most of your new customers are not searching your business name. They are searching "best beach club near me," "restaurant Ibiza old town open now," or "boutique hotel San Antonio." These searches trigger the Google Map Pack, the three-listing block that appears above the normal search results, and if your business is not optimized there, you are invisible to the exact people ready to spend money nearby. We covered why your Ibiza business might not be showing up on Google in an earlier article. This one goes deeper into the single highest-leverage fix: your Google Business Profile (GBP), formerly known as Google My Business.

LISTED VS FOUND

Why Google Business Profile Matters More in Ibiza Than Almost Anywhere Else

Ibiza's economy runs on visitors who are searching in real time, often on their phones, often with "near me" in the query. A tourist standing in Marina Botafoch deciding where to eat is not scrolling to page two. They are tapping one of the three results in the Map Pack. Ranking there is not a nice bonus, it is often the difference between a full terrace and an empty one.

The Map Pack ranking is driven by a different set of signals than a normal web page ranking. Google weighs three main factors: relevance (does your profile match the search), distance (how close you are to the searcher or the searched location), and prominence (how well known and well reviewed you are). A perfectly optimized website will not fix a weak Business Profile, and the reverse is also true. Both need attention.

Claim and verify your listing first

Many Ibiza businesses already have a Google Business Profile that Google generated automatically, often with incomplete or outdated information. Before doing anything else, search your business name on Google or Maps and check whether a listing already exists.

If it does, claim it through business.google.com. If it does not, create a new one there. Verification is usually done by postcard, phone, or email depending on the business category, and it can take a few days, so this is not a same-day fix. Start it early.

Once you have access, these fields matter most:

Get the fundamentals exactly right

Business name
1

Use your real, registered business name exactly as it appears on your signage. Do not stuff keywords into the name field, such as "Ibiza Beach Club - Best Beach Club Ibiza." Google penalizes this, and it can get a listing suspended.

Category
2

Choose the most specific primary category available, not the broadest one. "Beach Club" ranks better for beach club searches than the generic "Restaurant" category, even if you also serve food. You can add secondary categories to cover additional services.

Address and service area
3

If customers visit you, use a precise, accurate address. If you are a mobile service business, such as a boat charter or a private chef, set a service area instead of a fixed address.

HOURS & SEASONALITY
4

Ibiza runs on a seasonal calendar, and this is where most local businesses lose points. A restaurant that closes for the winter but leaves its profile showing "Open" in January sends a bad signal to both Google and confused customers. Update your hours for opening season, closing season, and holidays as they happen.

Phone number and website
5

Use a local number where possible and link to your actual website, not a generic aggregator page.

A Google Business Profile that shows Open when you're closed for the season will cost you more customers than it ever saves you time.

Photos, Reviews & Activity

The Signals Google Actually Tracks After Setup

Listings with photos get significantly more requests for directions and more website clicks than listings without them. For Ibiza specifically, upload exterior shots so people recognize your entrance, interior shots that show the real atmosphere (not stock-style images), your menu or product range, photos taken at different times of day, since a beach club at sunset sells itself, and a recent photo of the team or owner, which builds trust. Add new photos regularly, a profile that hasn't been updated in two years looks abandoned, and Google notices activity, not just content.

Review count, recency, and star rating all feed directly into your Map Pack ranking. A business with 40 recent reviews at 4.6 stars will typically outrank one with 200 reviews from three years ago and no recent activity. Ask satisfied customers directly for a review, respond to every review, positive and negative, and never buy or fake reviews, Google actively detects and penalizes this.

Google Business Profile also lets you publish short Posts for offers, events, or seasonal announcements, and it's worth monitoring the Questions & Answers section. Anyone can ask or answer, including non-customers, so seed it yourself with the two or three questions you get asked most (parking, dress code, reservation policy) before incorrect answers sit there unchallenged. A strong Business Profile doesn't replace a strong website, it works alongside one, your website earns trust once someone clicks through, your profile is what gets them to click in the first place.
